The lore of Paladini

We are nature, community and re-connection

Paladini chestnut forest was planted in the early seventeenth century to provide a source of food for the community living in nearby Prunecchio. Some of the chestnut trees such as marrone and puntecose were grafted at that time and are still producing chestnuts. Families depended on a year's supply of chestnut flour over the centuries and right up until the 1960s, when this forest was abandoned. We have restored the old chestnut drying house here on the land, and have been producing our own chestnut flour since 2019. When you arrive Colm or one of the volunteers will show you the 'metato' drying house and explain how the flour is made.

Wild Camping Paladini is an agri-campeggio - the camping is very much connected with our work on the land, you can make yourself a chestnut flour pancake for breakfast in our communal kitchen or you can buy our flour to take home with you as a memory of your stay at Paladini.
